So, in a recent post I made mention of the various ailments afflicting both Mimi and me. We were, as our friends Jon and Emily put it, "in the grip of some wintertime ague." (Congratulations to both on kid number two, while I'm at it.) I also made reference to Yuki's seeming imperviousness to human disease. In fact "Yuki seems impervious to human illness" is what I said. Now, I don't know for sure but it's possible that as I was typing that very sentence, pathogens were finding purchase in our dear daughter's sinuses. She had a runny nose for a couple of days and it didn't seem to be getting any better so Mimi took her to the doctor today and we are now the proud owners of Baby's First Ear Infection!
Kiddo has been in remarkably good spirits, all things considered. She doesn't have a fever and isn't really any more cranky than on any other day, so there's that. She has to sleep in her bouncy-seat (courtesy of House of Ward) so she can breathe more easily while sleeping. She's just about outgrown it, but if I put her in it when she's already asleep it works out pretty well. She is taking amoxicillin which is pink and viscous and which she seems uninterested in swallowing. We thought maybe we could hold her mouth shut like one must occasionally do with a dog who is taking medicine but the prospect of pink syrupy goo coming out of her nose was a little too much. Although ...
And now, a few random observations. Larry King style:
Your kid is never cuter than when she's asleep
We watched War of the Robots on Public Access Cinema this weekend. I think it was made entirely of unused footage from Battle of Worlds. The robots all had matching blonde Little Lord Fauntleroy hair-dos.
Can't remember the last time our dog has had a bath. 8 months? A year? She smells like corn chips.
Wondered today if my whole house smells like a dirty diaper and I just can't tell because I live in it.
Hey (end of Larry King bit, by the way), it occurs to me that if my house smells like a dirty diaper then any of us might smell like a dirty diaper so I want to ask anybody reading this who sees us on a regular basis to please let us know if we smell like a dirty diaper, or a dirty dog, or corn chips, or a dog wearing a diaper full of corn chips, or whatever because if you are our friend you will tell us these things so we can do something about it and you won't just try to spare our feelings and then have to explain to the lady at the coffee shop why that person you work with smells like a monkey cage.
And now that I have given you a free pass to mock my aroma, when you are done making the funny (you know who you are) please, seriously, tell us because knowledge is ... something.
