aftermath

Greetings from the other side of vacation. Just got back from a trip to California to celebrate my (Philip) parents' 50th anniversary. It was also a chance for Yuki to meet her 14 aunts and uncles, 20+ cousins, and innumerable extended family members. We enjoyed a week of polite meals and quiet conversation.

And a lot of this:

No, Yuki was not involved.

Stay tuned for a proper post about Yuki's first airplane ride, Yuki's second airplane ride, flying to cities not on your itinerary, missing rental car reservations, gin, Mexican food, Mexican beer, nuns, Jews, pizza parties, birthday parties, pool parties, anniversary parties, temper tantrums, trips to the beach, whiffle ball tournaments, ne'er do well high school friends, cheese bread, Crunch Berries, weak coffee, silent Olympics, parents embarrassing their children, children embarrassing their parents, explaining a tattoo, a mailbox full of wine, impossibly long goodbyes, Yuki's third and fourth airplane rides, ill-timed security inspections, yelling at United Airlines gate agents, and Sheena, the angriest flight attendant in the whole wide world.

And pictures, pictures, pictures! You won't believe your eyes!

panicky interlude

This is not the promised "Magical Ponies" post. Apologies. Instead, this is the "You Negligent Monster" post. Because Kiddo is in a Japanese daycare, parents are asked to remove their shoes before coming in. No problem. I have a pair of loafers that I hate that I wear on pickup days so I can get in and out more quickly. Most days while I'm putting my shoes on, Yuki will run away from me and I will make noisy protestations and she will giggle and come back. Today, however, there was the running and the noisy protestations and the giggling and a splat. I guess she tripped ("running away" involves going around a corner where I can't see her) because she was crying and pulling herself up off the floor when I got to her. "No big deal" as she likes to say (she does, really, it's friggin' adorable). She had a little red line across the bridge of her nose but there was no blood. She asked for a Band Aid and I told her we'd get her one...
