then there was that time ...

Though volumes could, and probably will, be written about a certain kiddo's experiments with slapping (and when slapping didn't work out, biting) sometimes you want to focus on other things.

Like that time she stole your hat and, damn it, somehow made it work with the dress.

Or that time she lay down on the swing and wanted you to push her.

Higher.

Or the time you went to the cement pond in the park and she took it all very seriously.

And she was befriended by a tribe of other toddlers who all gathered around her and held her hands and made toddler noises at her but you didn't take any pictures of the other toddlers because you didn't want to be Creepy Guy. And even though the cement pond was of questionable cleanliness, a good time was had by all.

And she took to wearing her towel like a tiny little prize fighter.

And then there was that time you went to the beach and forgot your camera.

Or the time you went to the aquarium

-- see, here's a fish --

And a lot of your pictures were blurry because the light wasn't great but you managed to get lucky on one.

We're going to focus on those times, this time.

The beauty of your daughter outweighs tenuously conjugated verbs. Can't wait to see you all in August.

dreaded doll

Yuki is now approaching the age where she is hearing at school that Santa perhaps does not exist and that things are coming from parents. This concern is also spreading to the area of the Tooth Fairy and the Switch Witch. But, Yuki still wants to believe in the magic.  So much so that while she expressed concern, she has yet to come out and ask us. So I suggested we watch Miracle on 34th Street which we did during Thanksgiving weekend and she was starry eyed. We wanted to help restore her faith in Christmas at least for one more year.  Enter: American Girl Doll Now, here is where the magic collides with reality. Yuki first  encountered  American Girl Doll in kindergarten when a few of her friends talked about theirs. When she first mentioned it I had a physical reaction to almost vomit. It was one of those "Disney Princess," "Barbie," and other things that the girls are supposed to get interested in that I dreaded. I don't have any problems with the...
