30 seconds with Yuki, episode 39

An episode from a recent trip to Portland, Oregon (more on that in a couple of days). Dedicated visitors to this blog (and if you are still coming by after 2+ years, I think you qualify as "dedicated") will, we hope, forgive the road noise and enjoy the singalong. That's "Shimmy Shimmy Coco Bop" by Little Anthony and the Imperials which is, inexplicably, one of her favorite songs. Thank you and enjoy.

I love it! Her intro is incredible. A true YouTube hit in the making. But just in case you want to get on Ellen, Jimmy Fallon or whatever, here's the lyrics, along with convenient dance step tips:

Oh ! Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh - ah!
Oh ! Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh - ah!

Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
Sittin' in a native hut
All alone and blue
Sittin' in a native hut
Wonderin' what to do
Along came a native girl
Did a native dance
It was like in paradise
Put me in a trance

Going
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
Joined her in her dancin' spree
Felt my spine a-tingle
Held her tight and close to me
Man I'm glad I'm single
Then she showed me what to do
First I was amazed
Soon I learned a step or two
Put me in a daze

Going
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
You can do the ko-ko-bop
Now's no time to stop
Left foot forward right one back
Bring them side by side
Uh syncopate your last two steps
Now you're going to glide
Keep along the rhythm track
Girls please show 'em how
Now you start to arch your back
Man you got it now

Going
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop
Shimmy Shimmy Bop

panicky interlude

This is not the promised "Magical Ponies" post. Apologies. Instead, this is the "You Negligent Monster" post. Because Kiddo is in a Japanese daycare, parents are asked to remove their shoes before coming in. No problem. I have a pair of loafers that I hate that I wear on pickup days so I can get in and out more quickly. Most days while I'm putting my shoes on, Yuki will run away from me and I will make noisy protestations and she will giggle and come back. Today, however, there was the running and the noisy protestations and the giggling and a splat. I guess she tripped ("running away" involves going around a corner where I can't see her) because she was crying and pulling herself up off the floor when I got to her. "No big deal" as she likes to say (she does, really, it's friggin' adorable). She had a little red line across the bridge of her nose but there was no blood. She asked for a Band Aid and I told her we'd get her one...
