where did you learn that?

There are a great many things I love about Kiddo right now – the wanting to sit in my lap all the time, the running hugs when I pick her up from daycare, her crazy dances (that sometimes make me fear for her safety) to songs she likes, her off-key caterwauling to those same songs, her recent infatuation with Rocky & Bullwinkle (also Mr. Peabody and Sherman) -- but the one that kills me is "peep." Somehow all electric lights are "peep."

When we go upstairs she gets on the first step, turns on the light and announces, "Peep on."

When she is in her room before bath time she will point at the lamp and ask "Peep on?"

Mornings lately are pretty dark so when I turn on her light to wake her she, without lifting her head, will sometimes yell, "NO PEEP!" in what is no doubt a harbinger of adolescent surliness.

We have no idea how "peep" came into the vocabulary and, though it might call into question my fitness as a parent, I cannot bring myself to correct it.

Maybe it's because I'm too busy indulging her Rocky & Bullwinkle habit and teaching her more important things. Like how to do a Bullwinkle impersonation.

That's my girl.

She does say "Moose and Squirrel" in an approximation of the Boris accent. I think Mimi as "Fearless Leader" is hilarious. Mimi might not agree, but whatcha gonna do?

dreaded doll

Yuki is now approaching the age where she is hearing at school that Santa perhaps does not exist and that things are coming from parents. This concern is also spreading to the area of the Tooth Fairy and the Switch Witch. But, Yuki still wants to believe in the magic.  So much so that while she expressed concern, she has yet to come out and ask us. So I suggested we watch Miracle on 34th Street which we did during Thanksgiving weekend and she was starry eyed. We wanted to help restore her faith in Christmas at least for one more year.  Enter: American Girl Doll Now, here is where the magic collides with reality. Yuki first  encountered  American Girl Doll in kindergarten when a few of her friends talked about theirs. When she first mentioned it I had a physical reaction to almost vomit. It was one of those "Disney Princess," "Barbie," and other things that the girls are supposed to get interested in that I dreaded. I don't have any problems with the...
