Watched the film version of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (see if you can finish this Frankie Avalon lyric from the opening song, "Come with me, on a ..."). Seems the Van Allen Radiation Belt burst into flames and the only way to stop the world from burning up was to take the Seaview to the Marianas and shoot a missile at it ("it" being the Van Allen Radiation Belt). I didn't understand the science behind it and film genius Irwin Allen didn't bother to show the climactic event on-camera but shortly after the missile was fired the sky wasn't red anymore and the movie ended so everything must have worked out. It's too bad Joan Fontaine was eaten by Peter Lorre's pet shark. And that her demise was given little more than a shrug by the crew of the sub. Anyway, that was my last submarine movie for a while.
Got through The Dirty Dozen. Telly Savalas as the Southern Evangelical was somehow the least probable thing in the movie. But it did feature George Kennedy who also appeared in Charade which I watched twice this weekend (so I guess this is George Kennedy week). If you haven't treated yourself to Charade yet, remedy that forthwith. Yuki loved it so much she slept through it twice!
Speaking of Yuki, we are working sitting up.

Trixie likes it because Yuki's face is easier to lick.

Occasionally we have to separate them.

Our good friend (and talented designer) Craig came over and sketched out the mural we wanted to put in Yuki's room. It's based on a background from a Krazy Kat comic written and drawn by George Herriman. If you are not familiar with Krazy Kat or the work of George Herriman, remedy that forthwith.
Here's Craig thinking.
Here's Craig drawing.
Then we painted the base colors and Craig is going to come back and add the details to make it look good. Here's Yuki "before," clearly uncertain about our plan.
Here's Philip painting.
Here's Mimi painting.
Here's Trixie painting.

And, though the mural isn't finished, here's Philip and the still-skeptical Yuki, practicing the "walkin' down the road, walkin' down the road" move.
Next up? GRANDPARENTS! The Smiths arrive on Thursday and the Katanos the Monday after. Yuki is not going to know what hit her.
