flower girl follies

So, Yuki's cousin Ric went and got himself all married up last weekend. Ric is the "alpha" cousin to Yuki's "omega" so he and his lovely bride, Alison, thought it would be nice to have our kiddo as their flower girl. It was awfully sweet of them to ask. How could we refuse?

Being the flower girl was just the tip of the iceberg of chaos that floated into the waters of our quiet lives (note to self: no more metaphor).

The fun began with a visit from Auntie KT and Uncle Mike from the mystical land of Singapore. They came bearing cameras and were kind enough to take pictures of Yuki's favorite subject: Yuki.

As per usual, Yuki very politely asked if she could see the picture that Auntie KT so kindly took.

Then we had visits with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Paul and Auntie G and cousins Philip, Serena, Camille, and Annalee but Mommy was busy and Dadoo forgot to take pictures of any of it. Good work Dadoo!

On Friday we (Dadoo and Kiddo) headed up to Bellingham without Mommy, because Mommy had to open a show that night. Good thing Dadoo remembered to pack the camera? What? He didn't? Aw, nertz. It's lucky ace photographer Uncle Mike was around to get a few pictures of the pool party at the hotel.

Mommy arrived on the morning of the wedding and we all lit out for Hovander Park, which was a beautiful spot on a beautiful day for a beautiful wedding. The flower girl carefully inspected each item in her inventory ...

... before heading down the aisle, glancing at everyone rather suspiciously. She then dropped and picked up the same flower three times on her way down.

After the ceremony, it was time for pictures. Kiddo had no time for it and just crossed in front of the wedding party while Uncle Mike snapped pictures. We ended up with this:

Then it was time for why some of us really go to weddings. Cake!

Oh, hey, look! It's Mommy who got new contact lenses!

It was also time to pay a visit to our new best friend, Piggie.

And to run hither and yon with cousins (from left) Annalee, Serena, and Josie (apologies to cousin Camille who is not in this picture but was a great pal to Kiddo all weekend).

Then there was one last kiss for the bride ...

Before heading home to, well, to a couple more days of chaos because everybody was still hanging around. We were pleased with how Kiddo handled herself all weekend. There was a dearth of napping and a lot of very late nights and missed meals, but she held up with grace and good humor. It was fun to watch her hang out with her cousins and see how quickly she is becoming a regulation kid. It's already happening too fast.

Anyway, it's nice to be back home in our crowded, crowded beds.

She totally owned that wedding photo (and the wedding, from the looks of things), and looked adorable. Which can wear a kid out.

Did you say "nertz"? Whatever does that mean?
Thanks for being such great hosts. My chiropractor says the ol' back should heal in just a few short months.

Okay, is Yuki copping a feel in that first picture?

She's still learning how to pose. Give her some time.
Boy had I got some catching up to do... also, is that a new haircut, Mimi? Or is it just the contacts thing?

panicky interlude

This is not the promised "Magical Ponies" post. Apologies. Instead, this is the "You Negligent Monster" post. Because Kiddo is in a Japanese daycare, parents are asked to remove their shoes before coming in. No problem. I have a pair of loafers that I hate that I wear on pickup days so I can get in and out more quickly. Most days while I'm putting my shoes on, Yuki will run away from me and I will make noisy protestations and she will giggle and come back. Today, however, there was the running and the noisy protestations and the giggling and a splat. I guess she tripped ("running away" involves going around a corner where I can't see her) because she was crying and pulling herself up off the floor when I got to her. "No big deal" as she likes to say (she does, really, it's friggin' adorable). She had a little red line across the bridge of her nose but there was no blood. She asked for a Band Aid and I told her we'd get her one...
