Last weekend was the Summer Festival at Kiddo's daycare. There were games and food and noise and this:
We don't get a lot of opportunity to show off her yukata, but this event was perfect for it. And with the mask on her head and the pinwheel, Mimi says she is the picture of Japanese Summer Festival.
Do you like her mask? She is a little kooky for Thomas the Tank Engine right now even though she doesn't really know who he is. He is on her toothpaste which she carries around with her at home but that's her only exposure to him. She calls him "ga-tahn go-tohn" (which is the sound trains make in Japanese -- now you know). Naturally, that is the mask she wanted. Who are we to say no?
Kiddo also got to pay a visit to her teacher, Koda-sensei.
Koda-sensei is our hero. She is doing a full third of the work in raising our child and she is great at it. And she is as fabulous as she appears in this picture. Sadly, Kiddo is mustering out of the Squirrel (Risu) class in a few weeks and will move up to the Rabbit (Usagi) class. I think we might miss Koda-sensei more than the kid will.
Oh, and pal Nora stopped by the festival, too! (Thanks to pal Gillian for bringing her.) She tore around the playground like she owned the place and then settled into the fishing game.
Which quickly became the "pouring water on your head" game.
Whatever makes her happy.
And Dadoo volunteered to work the ring-toss. He was very popular!
All in all it was a fun day of friends, chaos, and takoyaki. Of course, after a nap and a change, we busted out the high heels (thanks Frieda!) and had a little fashion show.

Serious on the lopsided mask though--it's so cool. I now think all masks should spend some time on the top. It's a trend that needs to happen.
